NHL Player Picks Up Hitchhiking Bono in Canada

Edmonton Oilers’ center Gilbert Brule could have sworn he saw U2 frontman Bono hitchhiking on the side of a Canadian road Tuesday.

Kelsey Nichols, his girlfriend and the driver of the car that had allegedly just whizzed past the rock icon, had her doubts — because why in the world would Bono be hitchhiking on the side of the road?

But Brule insisted, and got Nichols to turn the car back around. Moments later, Bono and his assistant were sitting next to the couple’s dog in the back seat of Brule’s car.

“We go to walk our dog and Bono ends up in our car,” Brule told the Edmonton Journal.

Apparently Bono and his assistant had gone for a walk of their own, and when it started to rain they had no other way to get back besides hitchhiking.

To express his gratitude, Bono gave Brule and Nichols tickets to the U2 show Wednesday night in Edmonton. During the performance, he also gave a shut out to Brule, telling the crowd “I like ice hockey because people who play ice hockey are the kind of people who pick up hitchhikers.”

Indeed.
