'Pain and Gain' is an action, comedy and crime film that deals with extortion and kidnapping.

A trio of bodybuilders in Florida get all wrapped up in an extortion ring and throw in kidnapping while you're at it but like most crimes this whole scheme goes terribly wrong.

This Michael Bay film is based on a true story and stars Mark Wahlberg (Daniel Lugo), Dwayne Johnson (Paul Doyle), Tony Shaulhoub (Victor Kershaw)  and Anthony Mackie (Adrian Doorbal).

Lugo a regular at the Sun Gym in Miami has had enough of the poor life and decides comes up with a scheme to kidnap Victor (a regular at the gym himself) and extort money from him using torture. Lugo recruits recently released criminal Paul Doyle to help in his cause.

The film is rated 'R' and runs 130 minutes, now playing at the Parkwood Cinemas. Check your local listings for showtimes.

I give the film 3 out of 5 based on the loss of it's satirical value in a flurry of violent spectacle.
