Former Led Zeppelin singer and revered rock god Robert Plant has a new band — one which he’ll trot out at this summer’s flagship Womad festival in the U.K.

Dubbed the Sensational Space Shifters, the group is made up of Plant, people from his former backing band Strange Sensation, and blues guitarist Justin Adams, who all say their music is inspired by “the roots music of Mississippi, Appalachia, Gambia, Bristol and the foothills of Wolverhampton.”

This year marks the 30th anniversary for the Peter Gabriel-founded Womad festival (the name is an acronym for World of Music, Arts and Dance), which has hosted events events all over the world. In addition to the Sensational Space Shifters, the 2012 line-up includes Indian breakthrough star Raghu Dixit, the Buena Vista Social Club, French collective Lo’Jo, “funk orchestra” Grupo Fantasma and the Alaev Family from Tajikistan — with more acts to come.

The flagship Womad festival will take place July 27-29 at Charlton Park, Malmesbury, Wiltshire in the U.K. Tickets are available on the event’s website.
