When I was a youngster (in the early 2000s) there was a lot of garbage on the radio – Limp Bizcuit, Godsmack, Mudvayne, Staind, the list goes on and on. Let’s be real – rock music isn’t supposed to be about whining about how your girlfriend broke your heart or about how difficult the lives of teenagers in middle class, suburban America are.

Rock music is supposed to be anti-authoritarian and rebellious. It’s supposed to have grit and aggression. One of the few bands that offered a glimmer of hope for the future of rock music back in the day was Green Day.

Now, they were far from being hard rock or metal, but they were definitely at the helm of the punk revival. Billie Joe Armstrong is one of the best songwriters of our generation, and he’s definitely been staying busy lately. Check out the latest episode of Rock Talk to see what he’s been up to.
