SARTELL -- With plans to open by August, construction crews are on the final stretch for completing the new Sartell Community Center.

The 53,000 square-foot facility was designed to offer numerous amenities to all ages in the community. Construction Manager Bob Strack says they are working in stages to wrap up the project.

"There are cabinets, tiles, painting, ceilings on one end of the building, however when we get to the other side it's no even close to that state. So we're staging the project so certain spaces don't sit idol," says Strack.

The facility will include a senior center, learning and innovation center, multi-purpose rooms, three full size gymnasiums, a second floor walking track, and locker rooms.

City Administrator Mary Degiovanni says there will also be some outdoor trails and seating to utilize the Lake Francis area.

"We will have a patio outside a few rooms which will be a very integrated indoor and outdoor space which is important to a lot of our residents in Sartell," says Degiovanni.

Earlier this year the city approved a contract with ProField LLC to handle the day-to-day operations through 2019.

Sartell Mayor Sarah Jane Nicoll says the community center is unique to other facilities in the St. Cloud metro and does have room for growth.

"What often comes up from residents is an outdoor pool. We do have room for expansion here for that if the funds become available in the future," says Nicoll.

Strack says the $11-million dollar project is coming in on budget and on time, however no official opening date has been set.
