A journey that I've been looking forward to for over a year finally started yesterday. Tuesday (7/17) was day #1 of the 2nd Annual Mark Munson Memorial School of Rock in Brainerd.

I get to channel my inner Jack Black!!!

It's a six-day "camp" for kids & teenagers to learn about what it takes to be in a rock band.

I've been playing guitar and/or bass in rock bands for almost 25 years, and this is my first opportunity to be a true "rock musician" instructor (as opposed to a guitar teacher, which I've also done).

Day One was fun. As one of several Rock Guitar Instructors, we began the day with auditions to determine players' skill levels, strengths, weaknesses, etc. The same was done with the keyboardists, drummers, and singers. Then all of the instructors gathered into a room to draft students into bands.

Then, it was off to the rehearsals!

For some odd reason, our rehearsal room didn't have any instruments. Weird? Yes. What that did was give us the opportunity to figure out the two songs that the kids want to do, as well as a band name and band "look."

Today (Wednesday) will be the kids' first day of rehearsal, and I can't WAIT to see what these kids can do! I'll have pictures from today's jam (my phone was dead yesterday) in tomorrow's update!
