I think I've made it relatively clear I'm excited for this one.

Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, Thursday night, May 12th at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

I scored the best tickets for a show I have in years for this one.

And of course, I've been monitoring his set-list from show to show, ever since the tour kicked off last month.

Somewhat surprisingly, for a 66 year old dude who has openly questioned his endurance and the strength of his voice over the past decade, the shows thus far have been clocking in at nearly three hours and the song repertoire has left little to be desired (though my all time fav, "Til it Shines", has yet to appear).

Along with "Mainstreet", "Against the Wind", "We've Got Tonight", "Rock and Roll Never Forgets" and other usual suspects, Bob's also been including a healthy set of covers.

It takes a rare artist to make his audience long to hear his cover versions alongside his original materials, but if you give a listen to his 1977 "Live Bullet" album, you'll hear it open with Tina Turner's "Nutbush City Limits" and close with Chuck berry's "Let it Rock":  a spellbinding book-end.

The first single off the upcoming new album is Tom Wait's "Downtown Train" (listen here) and by all reports, he's been bringing down the house with it.

In a recent interview, Seger was asked if he and Waits had actually ever hung out together.

"Yeah, once. Drivin' through Westwoodand he was walkin,' and I yelled over for him to come over to the car, and he said, 'Oh! Seger!' -- and he jumped in the car and we started talkin'. And for me, the criteria of picking someone else's song is it's something I'd wished I'd written myself. That's, I guess, then highest compliment I can pay another songwriter."
