Some Big Names Contribute To DIO’s Cancer Fund

Last Monday marked the one year anniversary of the death of Ronnie James Dio.

The legendary metal singer - I had the honor of meeting him years back - passed away from stomach cancer at age 67.

Since then, his wife and manager Wendy has founded the "Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund", and it has reportedly raised $450,000 towards research against the disease.

Later this year, Christie's Auction House will hold an event in which numerous guitars will be up for bid with proceeds going to Dio's fund.

And is should be a hefty haul:Eddie Van Halen, Slash, Aerosmith, Tony Iommi, Sting, Metallica, Slayer and Rush have all pitched in with instruments.
