Today's story travels to Spartanburg County, South Carolina (THIS! IS! SPARTAAAAANBURG!!), where Master Deputy Mike Gibson is the school's full-time resource officer. The kids are taught from an early age that cops are their friends, instead of just folks with guns who put people in jail.

One day Gibson had to write a report about a boy who'd been abused. Something about the situation tugged at the officer's heart strings. It turned out that the boy was in foster care, and had been through eight different foster homes.

Stability for children - as any parent or child caretaker can tell you - is very important.

Officer Gibson talked to his wife (atta boy!) about the child. As soon as the boy's parents' parental rights were terminated, the Gibsons adopted him.
