ST. CLOUD -- The new Catholic school district in St. Cloud has its first superintendent.

The Catholic Community School's corporate board announced the selection of Kevin Powers Tuesday.

Powers was the Principal for the past four years at St. Margaret of Scotland School in Chicago. Bishop Donald Kettler says Powers is a passionate educator.

"Powers has demonstrated a passionate commitment to Catholic education both as a teacher and administrator, his vision for Catholic Community Schools will strengthen efforts to provide a top-notch education as we form the next generation of leaders for our world and church."

Father Ron Weyrens, chair of the CCS board of directors, adds that Powers has a gift for connecting with people.

"He will help draw us together and move us forward as we strengthen our schools and the Catholic presence here in our communities."

The search committee started last October, and 14 applications were received.

Earlier this month, community interviews with Powers and the other finalists Mike Mullin, President of Cathedral High School, and Anne Penny, Principal of St. Charles Catholic School in Winnipeg, helped the CCS corporate board members make the final decision.

Powers will start, July 1.
