St. Joe Poker Run Roars and Raises Money to Fight Cancer [VIDEO]

ST. JOSEPH -- The streets of St. Joseph roared as over 50 motorcyclists came out to raise money for the American Cancer Society at the 4th annual Joe Boys Poker Run on Saturday.

The weather was perfect for the event that has participants stop at five locations around central Minnesota to pick up a playing card -- the rider with the best poker hand at the end wins a $100 prize.

"We couldn't ask for a better day," says Josh Schmitz, who started the event four years ago.

Schmitz says he was happy with the day's turnout.

"I'm impressed, it started out four years ago with 12 guys and now we got over 50."

One of the riders was Nikolaus Sauer of St. Cloud, who was riding in his first ever poker run.

"I'm just having a good time talking to everybody and raising money for a good cause," Sauer says.

Sauer says he was honored to be able to participate in the event to fight cancer.

"I've personally lost someone close to me [to cancer], and it's really nice to see all these people come out here and donating money to help out."

After the poker run, a hog roast and silent auction is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at the American Legion and an after party with a DJ is set to start at 7:00 p.m. at El Paso. All proceeds from the day's events go to the American Cancer Society.
