We know Steven Tyler‘s got a powerful set of pipes, but he’ll put it to use as a voice actor rather than as a singer for the upcoming Fox animated film, ‘Epic.’

Deadline reports that the film will feature an all-star cast, including several musicians – Beyonce and Pitbull being the others. The movie follows the story of a teenage girl as she is transported to another universe where she’s asked to team with a bunch of the local inhabitants save the world.

Tyler will voice the character of Nim Galuu in the movie, and he’s joined in the cast by Josh Hutcherson, Jason Sudeikis, Aziz Ansari, Colin Farrell, Amanda Seyfried, and Johnny Knoxville. ‘Ice Age’ director Chris Wedge has signed on to helm the 3D CG animated feature. ‘Epic’ is currently scheduled to arrive May 24, 2013.

This isn’t the Aerosmith singer’s first film, though most of his roles have primarily had him playing himself. He did have roles in such features as the ‘Polar Express’ and ‘Clubland,’ while appearing as himself in ‘Wayne’s World 2,’ ‘Be Cool,’ and in ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ as a member of the Future Villain Band. Plus he’s been a judge on ‘American Idol’ over the last two years and contributed to several movie soundtracks.

If you want singing, you’ll have to happily settle for Tyler rejoining Aerosmith on their upcoming album, ‘Music From Another Dimension,’ due in September. It features the new single ‘Legendary Child.’
