ST. CLOUD -- A line of severe storms raced across central Minnesota early Wednesday morning which prompted a handful of severe thunderstorm warnings.

The main threat was strong winds with gusts as high as 60 miles-per-hour and hail as large as a half dollar.  There were no reports of any damage at the time of this report.

The unofficial rainfall total for the storm in southeast St. Cloud was .60 of an inch.

Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for southeastern Douglas, northern Pope, southwestern Todd, northwestern Stearns, southeastern Benton and Sherburne Counties between 12:00 a.m. and 2:30 a.m.

Warm, muggy conditions collided with a cold front pushing down from the northwest prompting conditions favorable to strong and severe storm cells.

Much of central Minnesota was under a severe thunderstorm watch until 4:00 a.m.
