As a professional nerd, there are a few things that I have to be able to fit into my week: playing a couple of games of chess, watching a few episodes of Star Wars, and listening to a handful of progressive rock concept albums. But arguably the most rewarding and productive activity I partake in is reading.

I’m a huge philosophy buff, so you can usually catch me with my nose in the books of Carl Jung, Aristotle, or Michio Kaku at least a couple of nights out of the week. Reading challenging material can be a rather rewarding experience, and I believe in the importance of turning young people onto thought provoking literature.

If you happen to know some under the age of 18 that enjoys reading, you should have them look into the Summer Reading Program at the Great River Regional Library (Sauk Centre.) Kick-off/registration day is June 11th between 1 pm and 4 pm and it’s completely free to sign up.
