With May and June proving to be active weather months, Stearns County is issuing some clarification on their procedures for sounding the outdoor sirens. Some listeners calling into WJON on Sunday night did mention that they were confused about the timing of the weather sirens.

Stearns County officials made the decision to sound the outdoor sirens on Friday evening, despite the fact that the National Weather Service in Chanhassen did not activate a warning for the area. That left a lot of people confused about what was going on.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch in effect from 3 PM Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning for the entire southern half of the state, including St. Cloud, Marshall, Willmar, and the Twin Cities. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for extreme Southeastern Minnesota including Rochester & Red Wing.
