Shemane Nugent, the 51-year-old wife of rocker Ted Nugent, says she forgot about the loaded revolver in her luggage as she attempted to get through security at the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport on Aug. 29. She said she was carrying the gun for protection because she had received death threats.

Airport police arrested Nugent after x-ray operators spotted the .38 special handgun and found that it was loaded with five rounds of ammunition. Additionally, TMZ reports that Nugent had 10 rounds stored in the side pocket of her bag.

“I know what the problem is," she told authorities, according to the local CBS affiliate. "I forgot the gun was in the bag,”

The nature of the death threats has not been revealed, but Nugent says she has a concealed handgun license in the state of Texas. Her husband -- a well-known advocate for gun rights -- is on tour in California and Nevada this weekend. His wife was released from jail later in the day. According to the USA Today, her lawyer says she faces a $2,000 fine.
