For years we have struggled (and by struggle I don't actually mean struggle, cause who cares), with the decision to either put your t.p. so it rolls over or under when you pull it. Now we find the truth.  

I didn't realize that toilet paper dated so far back and I can't imagine how "crappy" it was to do your business prior to it being invented.

In the diagram from the original patent drawing you will see just how the inventor, Seth Wheeler, intended it to be used.  I'm less concerned with how it comes off and more with the fact that it's there, so I don't have to waddle around looking for more t.p. bunghole <cue Beavis & Butt-head>
