A confusing title no doubt for this concept album released in 1969, however: 'Richard P. Havens, 1983' was pretty well received. The album reached #80 on the pop chart.

'Richard P. Havens - 1983' is a double-LP that consists of five live recordings from 1968 and the remainder studio delights.

The album was out of the norm for Richie, instead of the minimal backup singers he would normally use, this go 'round Richie had more than 20 musicians on board a hand full of unusual instruments, i.e., steel guitar and sitar, there was even some organ used.

The session musicians included Stephen Stills on bass and Bruce Langhorne on guitar (Langhorne was the inspiration for Dylan's "Mr. Tamborine Man").

'Richard P. Havens, 1963' was Richie's debut as a co- producer on one of his albums  too.
