The Beatles weren't just The Beatles without the women behind them for support and I'll tell you who they are.

Maybe you'd never guess that the song, "Martha, My Dear" was inspired by a dog or the song, "Julia" was inspired by a mother but they were and here's the inside story.

You'll find the song titled "Julia" on the Beatles 'White Album' and the inspiration behind the song was from John Lennon's mother Julia Lennon. Julia was killed by a drunk driver (1958) when John was a mere 17 years old. It was the only  Beatles performance to feature John as the sole contributor. To me it was the highlight and a great ballad on their 'White Album.'

The 'White Album' also features another song of inspiration from one of the women behind The Beatles, yet of a different species, a dog. Paul's sheepdog was named Martha. The song, "Martha My Dear' was assisted by session musicians on both strings and brass.  The other instruments, including the drums were by Paul.  The lyrics no doubt reflect Paul's recently ruptured relationship with Jane Asher, but there's a distinctly canine twist to the song that displays Paul's certain type of humor to it.

Jane Asher met Paul in 1963. The romantic relationship only for five years. They were together during the recording of the, 'White Album.'  Asher was also the inspiration for many songs including, "And I Love Her" a true classic. That song was  written for the soundtrack of  A Hard Day's Night (1964) ,, that ballad featured a touching double-tracked vocal from Paul and Ringo on the bongos with George on the classical guitar.

Yoko Ono (artist) met John Lennon at a London art gallery where there was an exhibition of her work in 1966. John married Yoko in 1969 with an unfortunate fact that they were together at John's tragic assassination in 1980. "Don't Let Me Down" was a heartfelt song that John wrote in her honor,  also the songs, "The Ballad Of John and Yoko" and "I Want You (She's So Heavy)." Recorded in early 1969 during the Get Back sessions., The song was also playedon the rooftop of the Apple Records office on January 30, 1969 which would be their last live performance.

One of the most beloved ballads by The Beatles was the song titled,"Something" inspired by Pattie (she claims it is anyway). The two were divorced in 1977. It still may be a mystery as to the true inspiration but regardless, one can't deny as to the beauty of the composition.
