Tom Petty is none too pleased a local politician is using one of his songs for their campaign and has fired off an angry letter telling them to knock it off. Will they back down?

Tom Petty has sent a cease and desist letter to Congresswoman Michele Bachmann telling her she can no longer use "American Girl" as part of her campaign. Bachmann had used the song to play her off stage after she announced she was running for President in her hometown of Waterloo, Iowa.

This is not the first time Petty has had to tell a politician to quit using his music. He also asked the Bush campaign to stop using "I Won't Back Down" at his rallies while out on the trail in 1999.

Wixen Music Publishing Inc. issued a statement saying, "The impression that you and your campaign have been endorsed by Tom Petty, which is not true."   (For the record, Tom Petty allowed Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to use "American Girl" when she was running for President in 2008.)

There has been no word from the Bachmann camp.
