The Red Sox beat the Twins 2-1 at Fenway Park in Boston Tuesday night. Minnesota falls to 32-37 with the loss and now trail the Kansas City Royals by 5.5 games in the American League Central.

The Twins managed just four hits in the loss, with Danny Santana accounting for two of them. Joe Mauer also had an RBI double.

Phil Hughes took the loss despite allowing just two runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and no walks in a complete game effort.

Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester earned the win with 6.1 innings of one-run, four-hit ball.

The Twins will look to avoid being swept this afternoon when they take on the Sox in the final game of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 12:35 with Kyle Gibson starting for Minnesota against Boston’s John Lackey.
