Twins Edge Tigers 6-4
The Twins defeated Detroit 6-4 Monday night to win their 4th game in a row.
Minnesota scored 4 runs in the 4th inning and added 2 more runs in the 5th inning. Ryan Doumit was 3-3 with 1 RBI, Brian Dozier went 3-5 and Trevor Plouffe had a 2-run single for the Twins. Ben Revere added 2 hits, 2 runs scored and 1 RBI for Minnesota.
Anthony Swarzak threw 2 2/3 innings with 1 hit allowed to get the win in relief. Liam Hendriks threw 4 innings with 6 hits and 4 earned runs allowed but didn’t figure in the final decision. Glen Perkins allowed 2 hits but threw a scoreless 9th inning to get the save, his 3rd.
Manager Ron Gardenhire earned his 900th career managerial win last night.
The Twins are 34-45 and will play at Detroit again tonight at 6:05, pregame on WJON at 5:35.
Righthander Nick Blackburn (4-5) gets the start on the mound for the Twins and lefthander Duane Below (2-1) toes the rubber for the Tigers.
Twins reliever Matt Capps is expected to start a rehab assignment in Fort Myers, Florida on July 10. P.J. Walters made his first rehab start Sunday for triple-A Rochester and will start again on Friday. Both Capps and Walters have right shoulder inflamation.
The Twins signed Dominican shortstop Amaurys Minier to a $1.4 million deal. Minier will likely be moved to 3rd base. He is considered to have tremendous power.
