The non-waiver trade deadline in Major League Baseball is July 31 and the Twins have 2 key players that are on the market for trade, starting pitcher Francisco Liriano and centerfielder Denard Span.  Liriano went from having little no value in May to having tremendous value now.

The Twins are looking for pitching prospects in any trade for both Liriano and Span.  The Angels and Blue Jays have both been scouting Liriano lately but countless other teams have also shown interest.  Liriano is in the final year of his contract and the Twins cannot afford to get nothing for him and have him sign elsewhere in the offseason.  It would also be in his best interest to wait until the off-season to sign a contract because he could maximise his value.

Centerfield is one of the few positions the Twins seem some depth.  Ben Revere is a centerfielder and has shown he belongs in the major leagues.  Span could be dealt to the Reds, Nationals, Marlins or Yankees for a close to major league ready starting pitcher.  Twins fans don’t want to get rid of Span but like most of know you have to give something up to get something.

Twins General Manager Terry Ryan needs to get the best deal for the Twins to help the team in the future.  This is a lost season but let’s get some hope for 2013.
