The Twins lost to the Marlins 5-3 in Miami Wednesday in a matinee at Marlins Stadium. The 27-50 Marlins swept Minnesota in the two game series.

The Twins jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first but could not hang on for the win. Jeff Mathis, batting .109 on the season, had a two run home run in the fifth off of Twins starter Scott Diamond.

Giancarlo Stanton’s groundout scored former Twins pitcher Kevin Slowey, who had inexplicably singled against Diamond earlier in the inning.

Placido Polanco hit a two-run shot in the sixth inning to seal the win for Miami.

The Twins fall to 34-40 on the season and are back in action Thursday to kick off a four game set with the Royals at Target Field.
