ST. CLOUD -- Two people were arrested in connection to a robbery early this (Monday) morning.

The incident happened just after 2:00 a.m. in the 400 Block of Lake Boulevard East in St. Cloud.

St. Cloud Assistant Police Chief Jeff Oxton says a 19-year-old man was hit in the back of the head by a group of men who asked for a cigarette. They then took the victims cellphone and ran off.

As officers responded to the scene they noticed a group of people running from the area. A short foot chase occurred before officers caught two male suspects.

19-year-old Malique Hanson, of St. Cloud, and a 17-year-old man were taken into custody.

Further investigation found the 17-year-old was wanted for two other robberies that occurred last week in the 1100 block of 9th Avenue South. In both instances the victims were punched in the head and had their phones and cash stolen.

Both Hanson and the 17-year-old were arrested and taken to Stearns County Jail.

Hanson and the 17-year-old both are facing robbery charges. The 17-year-old faces additional robbery charges from the previous incidents.

The 19-year-old victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.
