Veteran's Day Weekend - Remembering Current and Past Service Memb

November 11th is Veteran's Day, a national holiday in the United States, and an important day to remember why we have the freedoms we have here.

The US Department of Veteran's Affairs says this about Veteran's Day:

For 98 years, Americans have remembered those who served our country in uniform on 11 November – first as Armistice Day, and then, since 1954 as Veterans Day. In this 99th year of commemoration, the Department of Veterans Affairs is broadening that tradition of observance and appreciation to include both Veterans and Military Families for the entire month of November.

So what is our duty, as citizens of the United States of America? It's to respect and honor those who served our country - current and past. It's also a important to remember those families who've supported their loved one while serving for this country.

There are a few events going on, both nationally and locally here in Minnesota that should have your attention this weekend, in honor of our veterans.

Arlington National Cemetery Veterans Day Ceremony

10 a.m. (CST) – Presidential Armed Forces Full Honor Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, followed by the National Observance Program hosted by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Official State of Minnesota Veterans Day Ceremony

Veterans Memorial Community Center in Inver Grove Heights (8055 Barbara Avenue, Inver Grove Height, MN). Breakfast will be served from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., followed by the official program at 10 a.m.

St. Cloud Area Veterans Parade and Social

1 p.m. - Starts at St. Cloud VA Medical Center (4801 Veterans Drive, St. Cloud, MN) and ends at Apollo High School (1000 44th AVE N, St. Cloud, MN)

This weekend it's important to show the utmost respect and honor to our veterans. Hoping the veteran's parade in St. Cloud is packed more than ever to show our central Minnesota veterans how much we appreciate their service.
