After determining that the amount of Walleye taken from Mille Lacs Lake has already exceeded the planned total for the season, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has announced that the Walleye season on Mille Lacs will close as of 10 PM tonight.

The Walleye population has been declining for years in the lake. The DNR tentatively plans to reopen the lake to Walleye fishing on December 1st for the winter season.

Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton is pushing for a special for a special legislative session to address relief for resort owners on the lake.
