Pete Townshend in track and field and Roger Daltrey in swimming and diving? Is this going to be the greatest Olympics ever?

Not exactly. A "source close to the band" said that the group has signed on to play the Closing Ceremonies for the London 2012 Olympics.  The article appeared this week in the UK Daily Mirror yesterday and "the source" told the paper that Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey were delighted to be asked to be a part of the festivities and the chance to participate at such an epic event was too good to pass up.  Today, on TheWho.com, it says that the rumors, in all caps, are, "NOT TRUE."

The London 2012 Olympics are less than a year away, and it sounds like the International Olympic Committee is having some trouble trying to secure some iconic British bands for the event. Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, Rolling Stones and the remaining members of Led Zeppelin have all been asked to take part in the opening ceremonies at the London 2012 Olympics and all but McCartney have said no thanks.

Opening ceremonies are set for July 27, 2012.
