The Minnesota Wild outshot the Oilers 18-0 in the second period on their way to a 4-2 win at Xcel Energy Center Sunday night.

Jared Spurgeon scored for the Wild at 2:37 of the first period for a 1-0 lead. Edmonton evened the score with a Magnus Paajarvi goal at 17:58.

In the second period the Wild outshot Edmonton 18-0 but did not score a goal. Edmonton scored to score in the period as well.

Mikko Koivu broke the tie for the Wild with a goal just nine seconds into the third, tying a team record for fastest goal in a period, for a 2-1 lead.

Charlie Coyle scored on a backhand for Minnesota for a 3-1 lead before Sam Gagner cut the Wild lead to a single goal with a shot from behind the net that eluded Minnesota goalie Niklas Backstrom.

Dany Heatley put the game away with a goal for the Wild at 15:09 to make it 4-2. The Wild outshot Edmonton 43-21 in the win.

Minnesota is at Chicago on Tuesday night.
