Wild Skid Gets Uglier In Blowout Loss To Penguins Tuesday

The Minnesota Wild's slump has officially become a skid after a lopsided 7-2 loss at Pittsburgh Tuesday night. The Wild fall below .500 with the loss (18-19-5), which was its sixth straight and 12th in 14 games.

The Penguins scored a pair of goals in the first period against Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom. Jonas Brodin scored early in the second period for Minnesota to cut the Pittsburgh lead in half at 2-1.

Just over a minute later, Charlie Coyle took a penalty for the Wild and the Penguins made him pay with an immediate power play goal for a 3-1 lead after two periods of play.

Pittsburgh rattled off three more goals in the third period to make the score 6-1 before Justin Fontaine added a goal for the Wild to make it 6-2. The Penguins would add one more before it was over to end the game with a 7-2 win.

The Wild are at Buffalo on Thursday night.
