The album name is realistically a play on words, 'A lad insane', it was released in 1973 and would David's sixth studio release.

'Aladdin Sane' had big shoes to follow simply because the year before was the ever so successful album 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars'

This album was suggested by many a critic to be some of Bowie's greatest work, two reasons:

  • It released two singles that became hits before the album was ever released and...

a) "The Jean Genie"

b) "Drive-in Saturday Night"

  • It charted at #1 in the U.K. in it's debut.
