Fergus Falls Native Chris Tungseth Makes It to Top 5 on Idol

Well, here we go!  We (as in we here in Minnesota) still have a shot at having an American Idol who hails from our great state.

AMERICAN IDOL HAS BEEN AROUND SINCE 2002

I usually don't watch American Idol.  At least not the entire season.  This season, for some reason, I have watched it from the audition process all the way to now, where they have eliminated everyone down to just 5 contestants.  The top 5 are all very good, so it's really tough to know who is going to come out of this victorious.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO WIN TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL CAREER

We all know that not everyone who wins American Idol has a crazy successful career.  There have been a handful, however.  And honestly, not all of them were winners.  Some people came in second, or even further down the line and still have really successful careers.  So, you don't HAVE to win, but it probably makes things a little easier.

SOME PEOPLE HAVE GONE ON TO HAVE REALLY SUCCESSFUL CAREERS

The top former American Idol contestants that have really gone on to successful careers have been Kelly Clarkson, the first Idol.  Adam Lambert, who tours now with Queen.  Carrie Underwood, who has come full circle and is now a judge, Chris Daughtry, who didn't win, and is very successful, Jennifer Hudson who didn't win Idol, but is now an EGOT winner.  And a few others.  So - you don't have to win, but I am absolutely rooting for this guy from Fergus Falls named Chris Tungseth.  He's amazing.

EVERYONE HAD TO SING A TAYLOR SWIFT SONG TO START THE NIGHT

Last night it was Taylor Swift night.  So all of the contestants sang a Taylor Swift song.  And then they sang another one of their choice which Tungseth chose Billie Eilish.  He crushed both of those songs.  Ryan Seacrest called him out on his football playing days with a song that he always used to hype up before a game which happens to be Taylor Swift's Blank Space.

Now, instead of waiting to see who moves on, American Idol lets you know by the end of the show.  This time, it came down to 3 (as it always does) Chris Tungseth was one of them, and he was the one who went through!!

Hopefully he makes it through again next week.  There are only a couple of weeks left before the crown a winner.  So, if you are interested in seeing who makes it to the end, American Idol airs on Monday nights on ABC.
