UNDATED -- The Stearns County board of commissioners has approved approximately $200,000 to help cover the cost of extending the Lake Wobegon Trail from St. Joseph into Waite Park.

At separate meetings Monday night, the cities of St. Joseph, Waite Park, and St. Cloud all approved spending $200,000 each to cover a funding shortfall of just over $800,000 to extend the trail.

Stearns County approved their share at Tuesday's board meeting, extending the trail 3.3-miles from where it ends in St. Joseph to River's Edge Park in Waite Park.  It's unclear at this time when construction on the extension will begin.

Plans are for the trail to eventually connect to the Beaver Island Trail in St. Cloud in future years.
