When my family and I decided it was time to move back home to Minnesota, I was excited for my kids to experience what winters are like here. Playing in the snow, building snowmen, having snowball fights, skiing, tubing, ice skating, snowmobiling and all the other fun things you can do.

Needless to say, they've been a little disappointed. "Really Dad? This is it? Where's all that snow?" they asked. "I don't know what to tell you." I said. "This is not normal." And it isn't, nor does it look like it's going to get much better.

Kenny Blumenfeld, a senior climatologist with the DNR Climate Office, says "When you have a warm first half of winter, it doesn't bode well for winter lovers". This winter could go on record as one of the top ten warmest.

Now. of course, winter is not even close to being done. We could end up getting lots of snow over the next couple months. But El Nino isn't helping matters and winters that start this warm, sometimes don't bring the desired snow that winter lovers want.
