Bob Seger Releases New Single ‘Detroit Made’
Bob Seger has released a new single, taking another step closer to releasing his first album of all-new material since 2006's 'Face the Promise.'
8/16 Update: You can hear the full studio version of 'Detroit Made' right here.
Seger's new track, 'Detroit Made,' is now available for radio play, and although it isn't in stores yet, the Detroit Free Press quotes members of his team who promise that release information -- for the song as well as Seger's upcoming album -- will be made available shortly.
The rush to radio was reportedly motivated by Seger's desire to get the song out in time for the 20th annual Woodward Dream Cruise car show on Aug. 16, which makes sense, given that the song -- originally penned by John Hiatt for his 2011 release, 'Dirty Jeans and Mudslide Hymns' -- is an ode to the Buick Electra 225. It's served as the opening number on Seger's recent tour dates; you can see a live performance embedded at the top of this post.
"I stumbled on 'Detroit Made' on [SiriusXM] Outlaw Country," Seger told Billboard. "I downloaded it, and that's a great opener for us. My initial plan was to have Kid Rock do it with me, but he was just so busy with the start of his tour that we weren't able to do it. I thought it would be great."
In lieu of Kid Rock, Seger enlisted a handful of Silver Bullet Band members, including background vocalist (and former Little Feat singer) Shaun Murphy. The Nashville sessions -- which, according to Billboard, Seger produced -- also included the new original number 'All of the Roads' and a cover of Billy Bragg and Wilco's Woody Guthrie-assisted 'California Stars,' all of which have made their way into Seger's live set list.
9/10 Update: Seger released the official video for 'Detroit Made,' which was filmed at the annual Woodward Dream Cruise in his hometown.
