Have you heard of Josh and Jase? They are two pretty famous Brits who just made a stop in the Twin Cities. Why?

Apparently, they've never had a 'Jucy Lucy ' and wanted to find out what it's all about.

IS THIS THE ORIGINAL JUCY LUCY?

The famous Brits stopped by Matt’s Bar in Minneapolis to try something they had never experienced back home in England: the Jucy Lucy.

And their reaction is pretty hilarious.

HAVE YOU HAD A 'JUCY LUCY'?

Instead of putting the cheese on top of the burger, the cheese is stuffed inside the beef patty. When you bite into it, you get a mouthful of melted cheese hiding inside the burger.

And that brings us to Matt’s Bar.

Celebrity Chef Continues His Minnesota Run

Matt’s Bar in South Minneapolis has been serving its famous Jucy Lucy since the 1950s and proudly calls itself the “Home of the Original Jucy Lucy.” According to Matt’s own history, the burger was created after a customer asked for cheese to be put between two hamburger patties. After biting into the burger and encountering the molten cheese, the customer reportedly called it “one juicy Lucy.”

There is just one little problem with that story. Another Minneapolis restaurant says Matt's wasn't the only place to invent the burger! They invented it, too.

THE 5-CLUB

The 5-8 Club has its own version of the Juicy Lucy (Spelled differently) and also traces the creation of the cheese-stuffed burger back to the 1950s. The biggest clue that you have wandered into the middle of a very old Minneapolis burger rivalry is the spelling.

Matt’s calls it the “Jucy Lucy.”

The 5-8 Club calls it the “Juicy Lucy.”

Yes, Minneapolis has apparently been arguing over one missing letter for decades.

WHO ACTUALLY CREATED THE CHEESE STUFFED BURGER?

The question of who actually invented the burger has never been completely settled. The Star Tribune has reported on the long-running rivalry between the two restaurants, noting that Matt’s has the more detailed origin story, while the 5-8 Club also claims the burger was created in the 1950s.

So technically, when Josh and Jase walked into Matt’s Bar, they weren't just ordering a burger. They were stepping into one of Minnesota’s greatest food debates.

The video shows the two Brits trying the famous burger and reacting to the whole 'Jucy Lucy' experience in their usual hilarious fashion. Watching people from another country discover something Minnesotans have been eating for generations makes the video even more fun.

Of course, Minnesotans already know there is one very important rule when eating the cheese-stuffed burger: Be careful! That cheese inside the burger gets incredibly hot!

Matt’s even uses the motto “Fear the Cheese!” when talking about its signature burger.

WHO HAS THE REAL JL?

As for whether Matt’s really is the original home of the Jucy Lucy, that part is still up for debate.

Matt’s has been telling the story since the 1950s, and the restaurant continues to proudly claim the title. The 5-8 Club has its own claim, and there doesn't appear to be enough surviving historical evidence to definitively put the argument to rest.

But one thing isn't really up for debate.

The Jucy Lucy has become one of Minneapolis' signature foods, and now two very popular Brits can say they've tried one. The only question is whether Josh and Jase will be brave enough to try the other version next!
