The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently added three new symptoms to those suffering from COVID- 19. Recent news outlets are reporting that this was done quietly, and the symptoms may have been added to the list back on May 13.

The new symptoms are:

  • Congestion/Runny Nose
  • Nausea/Vomiting
  • Diarrhea

These symptoms have been added to the official list, which includes:

  • Fever/Chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • Loss of taste/smell
  • Sore throat

The CDC also continues to emphasize, that not all with the virus will experience these symptoms, and those with symptoms will experience them in a wide variety of ways. Some may be mild, others severe, depending on a number of factors, and any of the symptoms can appear between 2-14 days of contracting the novel coronavirus.

As the world's medical field and leading scientists continue to learn and adapt to this virus, it's important to remember that COVID- 19 is still a new virus and as time passes, we will continue to learn more about symptoms, treatments, and eventually, a vaccine.

The list from the CDC is very similar to the World Health Organization's (WHO) list. According to the WHO, the most common symptoms are:

  • Fever
  • Dry Cough
  • Tiredness

There are two notable differences between the CDC and WHO when looking at 'Less Common Symptoms' though. The WHO lists Conjunctivitis (inflammation of the eye) and rashes on the skin, along with discoloration of the fingers and toes as possible symptoms of COVID- 19.
