Summer is finally here. Well, not officially. The calendar says that June 20th is the first day of summer. But for a lot of school kids, it’s summer, because school is out or almost done for the year.

Kids are looking for things to do this summer, and one or the all-time favorite things is playing outside with sidewalk chalk. Drawing things from their imagination, and for some, their artistic skills sharpen with the challenges of writing on the mostly unbalanced surfaces.

If your child loves sidewalk chalk, don’t miss this weekend’s “Chalkfest” in Maple Grove. This Saturday and Sunday artists will be working in the street and your kids are invited to come check out their work.

The event will take place on Main Street in downtown Maple Grove between Elk Creek Boulevard and Arbor Lakes Parkway between 10am and 5pm.

You’ll be able to get up close and watch these talented artists work, and you can even tip the artists. Each of their work areas will have a tip jar where you can show your favorite artists how much you appreciate their talent.

If you are more tech savvy, and you prefer to scan their QR code and send a tip directly to them, you’ll be able to do that too.

There will also be a Kids Zone with activities and even the chance for your kids to try their hand at sidewalk drawing.

This event is a rain or shine event, so plan accordingly.

You can bring your dog on a leash if it’s well behaved.
