Cinco de Mayo Weekend – Great Way to Celebrate in…Watkins

Cinco de Mayo - or Cinco de Beero as some people have called it, is officially Monday, May 5th.  But, it's totally fine to celebrate a bit earlier.  Like this weekend.

It's another one of those holidays that is really just another reason to celebrate with an adult beverage.  Because, why not?  Unless you can't, then that is a "why not" answer.

Recently we headed down to the Red Goat in Watkins.  Great place.  Known for their Bloody Marys.  So we had to try that, right?  Not bad at all!  I thought it was pretty perfect balancing the spice (not too spicy) and the other flavors with the usual garnishes.  And your choice of a chaser.  Including in some cases an entire bottle of beer.  You do you.

While we were there, we saw that this weekend is when they are officially opening up their patio.  Perfect weekend to do that.  And they have some great specials for Cinco de Mayo weekend.

They have great food there too, aside from the Mexican celebration that will be happening today (Friday) through Sunday.  That is according to the sign above.

I did try their Red Goat chicken sandwich with the sweet potato fries.  I don't know how familiar you are with sweet potato fries, but they are usually shoestring style, and kind of soggy.  But I feel like they are better than regular potato fries (not necessarily the truth) so I thought I would try their version.  10 out of 10!  They were not soggy, and definitely more "meaty" than other SP fries I have tried.

They also have some fun decor.  This table is made out of an old tractor.  Where else are you going to be able to sit, have a meal on an old tractor IN a restaurant?

The Mayor of Watkins will come in on a weekly basis and have lunch, so they made a sign so everyone will know that this is the "Mayor's Table".  Now you know.  It's important!

The patio opens today at 3pm!  Enjoy one (or more) of The Red Goat's own beer!  You know that adult beverages and food always tastes better on a patio on a nice day, right?

It's about time it got nice enough outside of enjoy the outside.  Here in Minnesota, you need to soak up every minute you can of outdoor activities before it's too cold again to do just that.  Enjoy!  Salut!
