Country Music Superstar Displays Extreme Kindness At Recent Show
Even if you aren’t a country music fan, odds are you know who Lainey Wilson is from her role on Yellowstone. But the truth be known, she is one of the biggest stars in America.
Late last year, Lainey Wilson announced that she would be going on tour this fall, and for Christmas last year, my granddaughter Lexi’s mother bought tickets for the two of them and my wife to see Lainey in Raleigh NC, where our families are from. The tickets were a part of Lexi’s 18th birthday celebration. That show was this past Friday night.
Lexi has intellectual disabilities along with a few other health problems, and was so excited for this concert.
My former co-worker, Brooks O’Brien, has a ton of contacts in this business and I asked her if she would reach out to someone at the record company and see if there was any way to get meet and greet passes for Lexi.
We knew it would take until closer to the show before we knew, but last Thursday we found out that the passes had been secured. With Lexi’s situation, she processes information at a slower rate than other people. She doesn’t really have excited reactions.
Friday night, my wife and Lexi and Lexi’s mom went backstage to meet Lainey, and she could not have been better. She hugged Lexi and her mom. Candi, Lexi’s mom whispered to Lainey that Lexi was special needs so she would understand why Lexi wasn’t responding immediately.
Lainey showered my granddaughter with attention and volunteered to sign her hat. She then took a picture with Lexi and then Lexi, Candi and my wife.
In my 36 years in radio, I’ve been backstage numerous times, some of the artists I’ve met have been awesome, and some... well, have not been.
For an artist to take a few extra minutes out of her time and make my granddaughter feel special, speaks to who she is as a person.
During their time with Lainey, they talked about Lexi’s family being from the mountains that were affected by the recent Hurricane. Lainey expressed sorrow for all that everyone there had gone through.
Late yesterday, Lainey backed that up by delivering a plane load of supplies to help those in need in that area.
Lainey has a song called "Heart Like A Truck", but it's evident that she also has a soft spot for her fans. Thank You Lainey Wilson for being so kind and compassionate to a young lady who will never forget the time you spent with her.
