Cracker Recall: Soup Season Just Got Dangerous

You might be the person who only buys name-brand foods rather than choosing cheaper value items for health and safety reasons; but this time, both value and name-brand products are affected, because the manufacturing facility affected by this recall makes products for both.

SHEARER'S FOODS LLC

A firm named Shearer's Foods, LLC out of Massillon, Ohio produces 'both national brand equivalent and value quality crackers,' and a current recall on oyster crackers, has been updated to a Class II. According to the article, the recall "involves products that may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects.' The stainless steel wire from food processing equipment has been seen breaking recently, which then can end up in the food, causing the recall. Although it won't cause an illness, if ingested, could cause a multitude of problems for people. The wire could be inside the crackers and not visible, in my opinion.

SOUP AND OYSTER CRACKER RECALL

The recall was made on soup and oyster crackers, which many people may be using right now especially due to Lent.

The crackers are often eaten as snacks as well, especially for young children, since they are easy for children to grab.

AFFECTED STORES IN CENTRAL MINNESOTA

The recall affects approximately 186,000 bags of crackers. Walmart and Target stores sell the products in central Minnesota and are involved in the recall.

Unfortunately, it appears that regardless of the recall, the crackers will still be available for purchase from some locations, while other locations decided to remove them from the shelves.

It is recommended that if you find these crackers in your pantry, you throw them away or try to get a refund from the store you bought them from.
