After a day of brats, burgers, potato salad and a day in the sun, it’s time for “ooh and ahh” moments in the sky.  As Independence Day rounds the corner, here are some of the best 4th of July firework displays in the area.

Joe Town Rocks, St. Joseph
Tuesday, July 3rd

St. Joseph features “Joe Town Rocks“  on July 3rd.  Free concerts starting at 6 p.m. featuring “Emma Kay and the Longways” as well as “Liverpool Legends.”  Then at 10:15 p.m., a fireworks display launched from the ballfield at the old Kennedy grade school in downtown St. Joseph. The fireworks follows the “Sky Concert” format synchronized to patriotic music.  It should last 12 minutes. This is no small town fireworks — “Shalo Lee and the Rust River Band” follows the fireworks to wrap up the night.

Marty Fireworks
Tuesday, July 3rd

You could celebrate the 4th a day early and travel to Marty, Minnesota on July 3rd.  Organizers boast of a fine fireworks display to be launched from a barge on Pearl Lake, off County Roads 8 and 141, about 1/2 mile form the Pearl Lake Lodge.

St. Cloud Fireworks, St. Cloud
Wednesday, July 4th

Gather at Hester and Wilson Parks for the best viewing.

St. Cloud is hosting its 65th annual July 4th fireworks.  A grand fireworks display over the Mississippi River starts at 10 p.m.  The fireworks will be launched from barges in the Mississippi River between Hester and Wilson Parks. The fireworks show will be synchronized to a specially-selected music soundtrack.  Enjoy live music at 8:30 p.m.  And there’ll be food, too — root beer floats, ice cream sundaes and candy bars on a stick.

Annandale Fireworks
Wednesday, July 4th

Annandale’s 123rd annual fourth of July celebration is on now through July 4th. Annandale is home to the longest consecutive running Fourth of July celebration in the state.  There are all sorts of events leading up to the spectacular fireworks on the 4th.  A parade at 10 a.m., carnival opens following the parade, queen coronation, food and music.  The fireworks display occurs at dusk, approximately at 10 p.m.  The show is located at the Annandale Municipal Park on Pleasant Lake.  This serves as a beautiful venue as the fireworks are fired off over the lake.  You can watch the show from a number of places — in the park, along the lakefront or from your boat.

Elk River Fireworks
Wednesday, July 4th

Elk River presents its 3rd annual Independence Day program on the 4th at Lions Park, 1104 Park Drive. It starts at 6:15 p.m. with a patriotic ceremony, followed by live music, Independence Day skit, food, kids’ activities and American-made cotton flags will be handed out. At 10:15 p.m., the fireworks show begins.
