Since it's National Colon Cancer Awareness Month, it's a good time to remind people over 50 or people that have a family history of colon cancer.  Colon and rectal cancer are a leader in cancer deaths in both men and women. If caught early, colon cancer, is one of the most preventable cancers.

I myself am due for another colonoscopy and plan to get one this year for sure.  I had one 10 years ago and there was nothing to it and they actually recovered one of my ex wife's shoes. Okay, I may have made that up.

Back then, the colonoscopy people kept calling me to set an appointment. I would make an appointment and then cancel it later because I had had no idea how easy of a procedure it was.

I finally booked an appointment I planned to keep and as the date got closer, I realized I had booked an appointment for the day after the Super Bowl.  This was kind of a big deal because I always looked forward to the Super Bowl feast. Unfortunately, I spent Super Bowl Sunday drinking the prep to clean out my colon before the next day's procedure.

But the whole thing was nothing and well worth it for the peace of mind.  So, since it's National Colon Cancer Awareness Month and you are due, make yourself an appointment.

For just a screening, which should not take the place of a colonoscopy, all this month people 50 and older can pick up a free immunochemical fecal occult test kit from CentraCare Pharmacy drive up window at St Cloud Hospital or you can get a kit from Coborn Healing Center by calling 320-229-5100.

Just complete and drop off a consent form at either one of the above locations. if you need more info, go to centracare.com or call 320-229-5199 ext 70857
