TheGreat Minnesota Get-Together begins next Thursday, August 21st.  If you plan on going to the fair this year. there are some things that might help when you are taking a day to do the fair.

No one wants to be uncomfortable, and you want to have the best time possible while you are there.  So, there are some "survival tips" to help you navigate your visit.

WEATHER

Make sure and check the forecast before you go.  Granted, it's not always accurate, but it can definitely help.  No one really wants to go to the fair on a day that is pouring rain.  And we have had so much of that this year.  So just take a look first.  If you need to plan ahead and bring a rain poncho, do so.  Better to be safe than sorry.

SHOES

This is SO IMPORTANT!  Wear shoes that are comfortable for you that you can walk in all day and not have your feet killing you.  That can make or break the whole experience.  And what is comfy does vary from person to person.  If you love sandals, wear those, but maybe some sneakers would be better.  Ok, and maybe even Crocs could be on the list.  Yikes!  You do you!

MAKE A PLAN

Know how you plan to get there.  Are you planning to park arouand or on the fairgrounds?  Get there early! Or maybe do the park and ride in a shuttle from another location near the fairgrounds.  This plan (in my opinion) is the best option.  Just remember where you need to get back on the bus after it drops you off.

Know what you are interested in seeing at the fair and plan accordingly.  If there are certain exhibits or food or bands make sure you know where you are going.  That way you won't miss anything.  The fair has a great app with a map and all of the vendors and shows that are happening at the fair.

BE PREPARED

Make sure to pack a little backpack (will be subject to a search upon entering), with some hand sanitizer, wet wipes, sunscreen, your own water bottle, and having a place to carry anything that you might need throughout the day. Plus, cash.  Some of the food vendors are cash only.

TICKETS

If you buy your tickets ahead of time you can usually save some money.  Or - make sure to watch for the discount days for various groups throughout the 12 days of the fair.

Have a great time at the State Fair!
