This really a great excuse to get out and do some ice fishing this weekend. It's one of those things that kids will always remember and what better way to spend a couple of days than hanging out with your kids.

Well, Minnesotans are in luck this weekend. The Minnesota Department of Resources has announced it's an official Take A Kid Ice Fishing Weekend all across the great state of Minnesota.

Take A Kid Ice Fishing Weekend goes from Tomorrow (1/16) through Monday (1/18) and allows Minnesotans 16 and older to fish or dark house spear without the normally required angling and spearing licenses. The only catch is you must take a kid 16 or younger with you.

“Ice fishing is lots of fun and is another way to enjoy the outdoors,” said Benji Kohn, volunteer mentor program coordinator with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. “If you’re looking to start ice fishing, check out our helpful information online.”

Should be an okay weekend for reeling in a few with temps in the low to mid 20's and it looks like no more snowfall for the weekend. There may be a chance of snow showers Monday afternoon but, all in all, it looks like a pretty good weekend to get out on the ice.

Keep in mind that the DNR is reminding anglers that ice conditions vary from lake to lake. No ice is 100% safe. Check conditions before heading out onto the ice.

Good fishing!
