It’s National “One Hit Wonder” Day
Don't get too excited and bring your one hitter to work today. National One Hit Wonder Day salutes those songs that were the only hit for the artist.
There seem to be a lot of them but when you try to recall one, well, it's difficult because they just seem to come and go.
Believe it or not, "Layla" by Derek and the Dominoes is considered a One Hit Wonder. Hoe about Wild Cherry's "Play That Funky Music (White Boy)"?
There are so many. Remember Mungo Jerry's "In the Summertime" or Brewer & Shipley's "One Toke Over the Line"? One I actually like is Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky".And who can forget, although I bet you wish you could, Debbie Boone's "You Light Up My Life"?
Most one hit wonders were in the Top 40 format, although a few of those bastards made their way into rock playlists.
Anyway, today, I decided to play one of my favorite one hit wonders in The Attic. Check it out. "Do You Know What I Mean" by Lee Michaels
