A popular outdoor chalk event, which just celebrated its tenth anniversary, has an uncertain future. The organization that ran the festival, as well as representing Maple Grove's Businesses, will no longer be in business after Friday. The closure leaves the popular summer event in limbo.

Chalkfest's Future In Limbo With Friday's Closure of MGBA

A social media post from Maple Grove's Chalkfest outlined what the dissolving of Maple Grove Business Associations will mean to the area businesses, as well as the event that just celebrated a decade of bringing chalk-based art and smiles to Maple Grove.

The post stated:

Dear Valued Members, Community Partners and the Maple Grove Community,

It is with deep regret that we share the Maple Grove Business Association will dissolve effective Friday, December 12, 2025.

Founded in 2001 as the Arbor Lakes Business Association and expanded citywide in 2021 as the Maple Grove Business Association, it has been our honor to serve Maple Grove’s businesses and community. Together, we built a strong network of support, collaboration, and growth. Unfortunately, due to insufficient financial resources and support, we are unable to continue operations.

It has been our honor to serve the community not only through our ongoing work, but also by hosting Chalkfest Maple Grove for the past decade. Celebrating its 10th Anniversary last year was a milestone we deeply cherished. With MGBA’s closure, Chalkfest Maple Grove will conclude under our organization, and we will no longer be involved in its future. We are profoundly grateful to the artists, sponsors, volunteers, and community members who helped make Chalkfest a lasting legacy.

We want to express our deepest gratitude for your trust and partnership over these many years. While this decision is a difficult one, we are incredibly proud of the work we've accomplished together.

Businesses looking for ongoing support and networking opportunities can find business guidance information at the City of Maple Grove’s Business Resources Page.

Thank you once again for allowing us to be part of this wonderful community. We wish all our members continued success in the future.

— Kira L. Johnson, Executive Director, and the Board of Directors of the Maple Grove Business Association

What's Next For The Beloved Chalkfest?

The post stated that Chalkfest won't have the Maple Grove Business Association involved in the event; it's unclear if the event's name could be sold or if a replacement event would pop up in its place.
The Association, in and of itself, represented businesses found in Minnesota's 2nd largest shopping district, leaving many of those businesses looking for other outlets and ways to reach out to community members.

Alex Wayne recently bought a mash-up of a Minnesota vehicle. It's a Mini Cooper frame with a Chevy Express van skeleton on top. This vehicle definitely turns some heads as it goes by, but it was supposed to do that.
