President Trump indicated today that a new granite helipad was being constructed on the White House's South Lawn. The new helipad was needed as the grass on the South Lawn was being "ripped up". My question is, where is the granite coming from?

All that is known about the new granite helipad on the South Lawn at the White House is that it will feature the Presidential Seal and will be paid for, according to the President, by the company that builds the Marine One helicopters.

USA Today wrote about the helipad this afternoon, and my main question is, where will the granite come from? It only seems natural that Central Minnesota would be a guess as to where the granite might be from.

Here are the other 4 locations, where the helipad's granite could come from, other than right here in Central Minnesota. St. Cloud might have the upper hand, as our granite has been used in the past for major national monuments and commercial applications.

1. Mount Airy, North Carolina - This North Carolina city is known as the "granite city" and features the world's largest open-faced granite quarry, which can be seen from space. The granite from this area of the US is often light gray or white in color.

2. Barre, Vermont - Home to the E.L. Smith Quarry, it's more known for the granite it produces for monument stones.

4. Texas - Specifically, Central Texas. This granite is more commonly used in industrial uses like curbs and paving; the Texas pink and gray granites are featured across the nation in various ways.

5. Concord, New Hampshire - New Hampshire is the 'Granite State' after all, but its granite seems to be more used for structural building elements.

Knowing what we now know, why wouldn't the granite come from here?
