3-2 Vote In Favor Of The Former Flag

On March 19th, the Zumbrota City Council voted 3-2 to display the 1983 Minnesota state flag versus the current flag. In the council's meeting packet Counselor Amundson shared a statement with the council:

"I urge the adoption of a directive requiring the city to fly the 1983 Minnesota state flag on all public buildings and properties. This action would honor our state’s rich heritage, uphold its historical significance, and ensure a meaningful legacy for our posterity, while rectifying flaws in the recent redesign process.

By preserving this symbol, we maintain a tangible link to our past, educating future generations about the values and struggles that shaped our state. Dismissing it risks erasing a vital part of our cultural legacy, leaving future generations with a diluted sense of where we come from.

The 2024 redesign was marred by significant shortcomings. The process lacked bipartisan consensus, there was no public referendum, and transparency was inadequate."

Wahkon Also Votes To Fly Former Flag

The Wahkon City Council, during its March meeting, voted to only display the 1983 flag.
