SARTELL -- Members of the Sartell, and Sauk Rapids police departments are spreading some holiday cheer to the youth in our community.

This (Tuesday) afternoon local law enforcement went on a shopping spree with several kids to pick out a gift for Christmas as part of their annual 'Shop With a Cop' program.

Sartell Officer Adam VandeVrede says he enjoys seeing the smiles on the kids face as they get that special gift.

"That feeling of getting something they really wanted for Christmas and didn't have the means to do it. This is a way to get something special for a kid," says VandeVrede.

The program gives less-fortunate kids a $50 gift card to either buy a present for themselves or family member to make their Christmas brighter.

About 14 off-duty police officers volunteered their time to take part in the shopping spree, which is as much of a heartwarming experience for the officers as it is the kids.

Shop with a Cop is made possible from a grant the Sartell Police Department obtained from Walmart as well as a donation from Bernicks.
